Neurodiversity Diagnosis ADD ASD ADHD

“Neurodiversity” is a word used to explain the unique ways people’s brains work. While everyone’s brain develops similarly, no two brains function just alike.

A “neurodivergent” person refers to someone whose brain processes information differently from the average or “neurotypical” person. These people may have learning disabilities, attention deficit and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and Tourette’s syndrome. Through a neurodiversity lens, such conditions reflect different ways of being that are all normal human experiences.

Although “neurodiversity” is usually used to describe a group of neurodivergent individuals, it also refers to all of humankind because everyone has a unique way of processing information.

Consultant in Child and Family Psychology

Simon Dermody is a Consultant in Child and Family Psychology with over 40 years of experience working in child and family mental health. During that time, he has written more than 300 reports for the courts in a wide range of areas, including social care, immigration appeals, and family contact dispute cases.

He has extensive experience specialising in therapeutic work with children and adolescents with a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. His work now focuses on assessment and report profiling for ADD, ADHD, and ASD.

Mr. Dermody uses the Connors Assessment Questionnaires (Conners 3TM) for ADHD and ADD profiling. There are two questionnaires, one for parents and one for teachers. There is also a self-report for 12-17 year olds.

For ASD profiling, the Connors ASD Questionnaires (ASRSTM) are used. There are two versions: ASRS (2-5 Years) for ratings of children aged 2 to 5 and ASRS (6-18 Years) for ratings of children or adolescents aged 6 to 18. These can be easily completed online. Each profiling combines with an online or face-to-face developmental interview with each child’s parents.
